High 5 FAQs
My group/team/school are good enough to play 7 a side.
- But are they good enough to play 5 aside?
- England netball has a talent development programme, which requires talented players to be able to play in all areas of the court.
The rotation takes too long & is confusing
- England Netball has suggested rotation patterns, but individual leagues, tournaments etc may agree the rotation pattern as long as it is consistent
- Some schools/clubs have young players who only play one position because of the needs of the school/club team yet possibly are not playing in their best position to show their talent yet may be used in a different position following talent identification.
There are too many children in my class for only 5 aside
- Whilst there are 10 on court there may also be umpires, scorers, centre pass markers.
- Those that are not on court may have one of the Skills Awards set up to practice, so that they are tested for them at the end of term.
- Spare posts are always good for shooting practices. Ask your local secondary school if they can spare one, or have targets drawn on a wall to practice.
The court is too big for 5 aside
- The large court allows the players to appreciate the use of space, necessary for netball and also means they have to use everyone, rather than miss out the one they consider weak!
- Use chalk or tape to create a circle and only use 2 thirds.
The other team has less players in it’s squad so rotates less people
