Pools

The 2007 New World Netball World Championships is a round-robin & play-off tournament, with the five top seeds, original host Fiji and the ten regional qualifiers allocated to four pools, each with four teams.

Each team therefore plays three Pool games during the first four days of the tournament, Saturday 10-Tuesday 13 November, earning 2 points for each win, 1 point for each draw and zero points for each loss.

The Pools for the 2007 tournament are:

New Zealand
Wales
Malawi
Botswana

Australia
Trinidad & Tobago
Samoa
Scotland

Jamaica
Fiji
Singapore
Cook Islands
England
South Africa
Barbados
Malaysia

How the Tournament Works

A total of 48 games will be played during the 2007 New World Netball World Championships in Auckland.

Pool play is conducted in a round-robin format (ie each team plays the other three teams in its pool). Points are awarded for wins and draws in these games, played on the first four days of the tournament, Saturday 10 to Tuesday 13 November.

At the end of the round robin all teams are re-ranked from 1 to 4 within their Pools i.e. A1, B3, C4, D2, etc based on the points gained from their Pool game results.

The top two ranked teams from each Pool move to the Section Games in the 1 to 8 section, while the bottom two ranked teams from each Pool move to the Section Games in the 9 to 16 section. All points gained from the round robin games are discarded.

Both the 1 to 8 and 9 to 16 Sections commence quarter-finals, semi-finals and final play-off games, scheduled for the last four days of the tournament. All games in this phase must play to an outright winner i.e. no drawn games are permitted.

Each team will play a total of six games during the World Championships. At the end of the tournament each team will have a final ranking, from 1 to 16.

The tournament ends with the play-off for first and second placings - otherwise known as the Championship Final, on Saturday evening, 17 November.
